Today is Veteran’s Day in the United States.  A day we set aside to honor the men, women and their families that have protected our freedom since the idea of this country was being fought for by our forefathers.

But today is also a shopping day for many.  It made me sad as I was walking around in a retail store, two weeks before Thanksgiving, and finding the Christmas sales full court press was already on.  There was part of one aisle for people who still celebrate Thanksgiving to find decorations or other related items, but the whole store was filled with “holiday cheer.”  It was very depressing.

It seems as if the retailers and corporations want to pass by Halloween, Veterans Day and Thanksgiving as quickly as possible to add to the bottom line.

But today isn’t about shopping, this is a day to honor those that have served…
